This work explores the intersection of memory, fragility, and resilience through textile art.
Using techniques like embroidery, kintsugi, and sashiko, I mend and transform fabric to reflect the way we hold onto, lose, and reconstruct our sense of self. In Grey Matters, inspired by an MRI scan of an Alzheimer’s patient, I use distressed denim—symbolizing endurance and wear—to represent the passage of time and the slow unraveling of memory. The intricate cut-work mimics the cognitive erosion of the disease, while delicate gold threads serve as glimmers of recollection, fleeting but luminous. By blending repair with loss, my work speaks to the quiet beauty of resilience and the stories embedded in every stitch.
Medium: Embroidery on Denim
Dimensions: 17” by 14”
Description: It is inspired by an MRI of an alzheimers patients brain. The cutwork is to remind one of the damage if the disease. Denim is a working fabric and is worn and distressed. And the gold thread is a memory flickering in a corner. The piece might seem to have an outraged face appearing in it.
