Surviving Serbia
SURVIVING SIBERIA is a book about one remarkable Polish family. World War II was barely underway when the Russian army invaded Poland. Within 20 minutes, the Ziolkowski family lost their home, their land, and their way of life. Their freedom was stolen, never to be returned. Life in Siberia was harsh and unforgiving. Eventually, family members were separated and lost to one another. Nothing would ever be the same again. Their lives are a testament of family ties, of strength of Spirit, and of living moment to moment: a declaration of love and survival amidst unimaginable odds. We honour and respect all Polish people and their history through the Ziolkowski family story, for the courageous lives they lived during the war and for the fortitude to build new lives out of chaos. In countries the world over, many have lived a similar story. One that we should never forget.
