Wilma Mehl

Originally from Germany, Wilma Mehl moved with her family to Lambton County in 2011. While she explored various creative avenues over the years, it wasn’t until 2020 that she fully immersed herself in the world of art, dedicating her focus to mastering the pastel medium.

Drawn by its vivid colors and expressive textures, she began creating representational works that reflect the beauty of  landscapes and seascapes. Waves—often inspired by the moods of Lake Huron—have become a recurring theme in her work.

Wilma’s art has been featured in numerous exhibitions and displayed in local galleries and businesses.

A highlight of her journey came in September 2023, when she was honoured with the Panel’s Choice Award at ART COMP in London, Ontario—a defining milestone in her artistic career.

Artist Statement:

"Over the years I tried various art forms, but pastels captured my heart instantly.

Despite being a neat and organized person,

I find fulfillment in getting covered in colors while working with this "messy" medium.

find inspiration for my realistic landscape & seascape paintings in the beauty that surrounds us, particularly in water sources such as lakes & oceans.

I am drawn to the blue color palette and the movement of waves. While many pastel artists prefer a more

looser & painterly style, I take pride in the intricate details of my work."
