William Allen (Bill) Walters
( Born Sarnia, Ontario, March 7, 1948 )
The first year Bill started pursuing his career as a Grade 7/8 teacher, he enrolled in an evening beginning painting course under the direction of David Korff at Lambton College in Sarnia. From that year on Bill's interest in studying, and making art flourished. While teaching and helping to raise four children, he continued to take art courses in painting, and printmaking (primarily woodcuts), and from 1987 to 1990 he co- authored the Intermediate Art Curriculum for the Lambton County School Board for all grade seven/ eight teachers. In his youthful days earning a Queen's scout distinction, and working summers at Canatara Park, Bill's love of nature continued to grow. Today Bill can often be seen with his easel set up in Blackwell Trails, Canatara Park, and other places around the city. As a Plein Air painter he has made several painting trips to Maine, Florida, Algonquin Park, and he participated in an art competition in Westfield NY, in 2014. He also has made two painting trips to the Charlevois area in Quebec in 2013 and 2015 with his Plein Air painter friend, J. Allison Robichaud.
Starting in 1975 Bill participated showing his work in the annual Juried “Look” shows at Gallery Lambton. Bill participated in, and received several awards in many other group shows at The Lawrence House (Third Place Award), Victoria Hall in Petrolia (Best In Oil 1994), Sarnia's Urban Nature Centre, Bear Creek Studio in Petrolia (Creativity Award 1995) and also at Gallery In The Grove (Award Of Merit 2016). Other solo shows include Grace Brother's Gallery, Artopia Gallery, Ron Lawton Gallery, Victoria Hall, The Lawrence House, Loca Restaurant in Wyoming, Ontario, Blackwater Cafe, and Gray's Floral Market in Petrolia. Most notably, his many solo shows at Sarnia's Cheeky Monkey record/ Cd store were enjoyed by many patrons, and art lovers from 2015 until 2021 when the store closed.
Once Covid began, Bill also completed many oil paintings in his studio, either painting from photos or setting up live still lifes. However his true passion is doing Plein Air work. For the last several years Bill's goal of painting 100 paintings a year has been reached.
Often you may find Bill setting up his easel in his own backyard in Sarnia where he resides with his lovely, and supportive wife Jacquie.
Bill's sales are represented in Canada, United States, Australia, and the U.K.
