Lucienne A.M. de Vries

Lucienne's sculptures are highly original and very unique. She works mostly in wood and on occasion in soap stone. Her themes often have to do with nature, not in appearance but more in the interpretation of the object. She takes it as a challenge by way of myth and narrative to make form after the idea. She describes her talent as a gift of intuition and her need to create involves a lot of determination and commitment. She prefers to work alone and uninterrupted. In all her quiet reserve lies a strong woman who sees beauty and form in most pieces of wood she finds. Her strength of mind comes from her strength of body. She has always been sports minded and was a dedicated triathlete on the 90's competing in several world championships for which she has been inducted into Sarnia's Sport Hall of Fame.
